Elida M. Penner

Elida M. Penner, 98, of Cumberland died Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Care and Rehab-Cumberland. She was born December 16, 1918 in Greensburg, KS to Jacob J. and Lena H. (Unruh) Unruh.  Elida was married in Winton, CA on October 12, 1947 to Pete E Penner, Jr who preceded her in death on February 11, 2015.   She was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jesse Unruh. Mom was a homemaker and devoted her life to investing in her family, friends and home.  She learned at a very young age how to prepare hearty meals for threshing crews of 10-20 hungry men.  This served her well as her family grew. Mom had a passion for collecting new recipes and they became a part of our mealtime routine.  Occasionally she would have an everlasting salad, but as a rule, she could make anything taste good.  What she excelled at was baking bread, rolls (of any kind) and doughnuts.  She passed this passion of collecting
recipes and baking on to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Elida is survived by her sons, Petrov Von Questor of Greeley, CO, Roy (Kirsten) Penner of Parachute, CO and Kenneth (Suzanne) Penner of Forney, TX; daughters, Glenda (David) Hagelberger of Cumberland and Marjorie (Reed) Koehn of Greeley, CO; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Leo Unruh of Moundridge, KS and sisters, Johanna Toews of Louisville, GA, Frieda (Art) Koehn of Moundridge, KS, LaJean (Allen) Becker of Halstead, KS, Zella Unruh of Halstead, KS and Mae Unruh of Halstead, KS, along with many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 13, 2017 at Cumberland Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Dorn officiating. Burial was in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spooner. Pallbearers were Michelle Miles, Melissa Van Riper, Marsha Prytz, Jessica Penner, Mindi
Hagelberger-Darfler and Dylon Koehn.  Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland
