Eugene Louis Perkins

Eugene Louis Perkins, 97, died on Monday, April 30, 2018 at American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. Eugene was born on November 1, 1920 in Minneapolis, MN to Cleve and Julia (Hanson) Perkins. Eugene was united in marriage to Katherine Gayda on February 14, 1942.  He enlisted in the Navy on July 20, 1942. He served during WWII as an Aviation Machinist Mate - Second Class. Eugene had the unique opportunity to work on Navy Blimp Squadrons. He was honorably discharged on October 23, 1945. After discharge from service, Eugene went to work for National Tea Company as a produce manager and retired in December 1981.
Eugene had a great sense of humor and was known for his quick wit. He enjoyed traveling the desert southwest, old cars, playing cards, dancing and fishing.
He was a member of VFW Post #6769 Cumberland, and VFW Post #1296 Bloomington, MN.
He is survived by Children;  David (Suzanne) Perkins of Hudson, Richard (Renae) Perkins of Elk River, MN, Daughter-in-law Dana Perkins, 11 Grandchildren; Randy (Dana) Matheson, Debbie (Rick) Carriveau, Shelly Matheson, Todd Perkins, Arron Perkins,  Michael Perkins, Kari LaFlex, Melissa (Brian) Glancy, Sean (Sarah) Perkins, Joe Perkins, Kayli (Brian) Sparks. Many Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 54 years, Katherine,  brother Glenn, daughter Jeanette Hobson, son Dale Perkins and Grandson Bobby Matheson.
 A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, May 8th at 11:00 am with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
Luncheon will be served after the service at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8115 State Hwy 7, St. Louis Park, MN 55426.
After Luncheon, Burial is at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Crystal, MN
Arrangements have been entrusted to Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland
