Potential drowning sours Memorial Day Weekend

Scene of the tragic swimming accident on Monday, May 27th. A sad reminder to wear flotation devices and be vigilant when kids are in the water.

On Saturday, May 25, 2019, at approximately 2:38 p.m., Barron County Dispatch received a 911 call advising of a possible downing at the Cumberland beach.
The Cumberland Police Department, along with the Cumberland Ambulance, the Cumberland Fire Department, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin DNR responded to the scene.
A boat monitor working at the boat landing, had witnessed the subject swimming and saw the individual go down and not return to the surface, he immediately called 911.
Kevin McClain, who lives in the area, swam out to where the subject was last seen and was able to recover him and bring him to shore.
The subject, a 15-year-old male,  was transported to Cumberland Healthcare and then flown to Regions Hospital. His identity and condition had not been released at press time.
