Vera Anita (Kluge) Klopotek

Vera Anita (Kluge) Klopotek

Vera Anita (Kluge) Klopotek was born October 10, 1922, in Cumberland WI.  She was the daughter of Fred and Agatha (Rust) Kluge.  Vera was baptized as an infant on October 22, 1922, and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on August 11, 1935 at Collingwood Church in Cumberland, WI.
On May 22, 1943, Vera was united in marriage to Walter Klopotek at Collingwood Church.  Vera and Walter made their home on a farm 5 miles southeast of Cumberland an there they raised their two children, Ray and Lonna.  They lived on the farm for 60 years and in May of 2010, they sold the farm and moved closer to town.  In 2011, Vera moved into the Regency Apartments.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Vera worked on the farm with Walter.  After a fire destroyed the barn in November of 1967, Vera worked at Stokely's during the summers; later on for the Cumberland School District in the cafeteria, and then as a waitress at the Tower House in Cumberland.

Vera was very active in the community and in her church.  She taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, attended Ladies Aid, Mission Circle and bible study.  In the community, she was active in the Homemakers Club and also a member of the Cumberland Hospital Auxiliary.

Vera loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens.  Every fall the shelves in the basement were filled with canned goods.  She loved to bake and the smell of fresh baked bread and cinnamon rolls were always in the air.  She learned to play the organ and loved to play "just for herself".  She enjoyed crocheting and quilting and playing a round of golf now and then.  Vera and Walter loved to camp and travel and were able to go on many wonderful trips.  Most of all, she cherished the time spent visiting with her family and friends.

Vera passed away on February 21, 2017 at the Care and Rehab- Cumberland at the age of 94.  Vera is survived by her son: Raymond (Shirley) Klopotek of Amery; daughter: Lonna (James) Schmidt of Centuria; grandchildren: Juanita (Paul) Myers, Michael Klopotek, Brian Schmidt, Barbara (Joe) Aronson and Michael Schmidt; great grandchildren: Talmage Kegley, Ethan Kegley, Nicole Klopotek, Michayla Klopotek, Emma Schmidt, Zachary Aronson and Olivia Aronson and sister, Viola Meisegeier of Barron.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers, Alenous and Norbert Kluge.
