For What It's Worth
By Craig Bucher
There is no doubt that baseball is my favorite sport. All of our children played the game. Heather played fast pitch softball while both Mark and Paul grew up on Little League and high school baseball diamonds. Our grandson, Isaac, will play his final year of high school baseball in Cumberland this season along, with five other seniors who have all played together since the third grade. This will be the 10th season that these six young men have won and lost games playing together as teammates. It is sad that Dylan Feiertag is out for the season with a bad knee. We have been at countless games where Myles Erb, Payton Rose, Dale Griffith, Tyler Landsworth, Dylan Feiertag and Isaac Bucher have made great plays and have had key hits. It was fun to watch, in sometimes fickle weather, as the winds howled and the temperature dropped. But it was all forgotten as the team, more often than not, walked off the field with a win. Sharon and I, remember exciting games that featured our children and I am sure the parents of these seniors have vivid memories of their son’s games.
It is a new season and the team needs more than these longtime teammates to be successful. There are other talented seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen who will provide thrills for all of us this season. A season that will hopefully bring supporters of Beaver Baseball many memories and much success. I can remember when these six kids first started playing and I can remember most of their cheers and some of the sadness, when things didn’t go just right. Thanks for all the memories you have given us and for all the memories you will yet make. To Myles, Payton, Dale, Tyler, Dylan and Isaac - it has been quite awhile since the third grade. You have come a long way. This year, have a great season and above all - have fun. Good luck to Coach Peterson and ----- GO BEAVERS!
SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!
