SCHOOLS
We have an active school district with an enrollment of over 1,000 students. We offer quality education with kindergarten through grade four, middle school with grades five through 8 and our local high school. We have technical schools and colleges just a few miles away from us which is accessible on a daily basis.
Cumberland Middle School was recently named a NASA Explorer School, and then-NASA Administrator, Sean O'Keefe flew NASA 1 into Cumberland Municipal Airport for the official kick-off to this new opportunity for the students. CMS is Wisconsin's first explorer school! Congratulations!
LIBRARY
We have a 23,000 volume Carnegie Public Library. we are now in the process of studying the possibility of an addition for another 4,000 sq. ft. of space to the back of the present library.
AIRPORT
We are very proud of the modern, well-equipped facility with 4,438 feet of paved and lighted runway. we offer the usual airport facilities...leasing and service, with maintenance available.
MEDICAL FACILITIES
Cumberland Memorial Hospital and the Cumberland Medical Clinic are now housed in the Regional Health Care facility. Adjacent we have the Extended Care Unit which is a skilled care nursing facility designed to care for our elderly citizens. We also have adult day care for older citizens.
We have NorthWest Regional Center, in the immediate area of NorthWest Regional Health Care, available for our population. This facility, a division of Cumberland Memorial Hospital, provides specialists in psychiatric, psychological and counseling services.
In addition, we have available chiropractic clinics, eye health, and dental facilities to round out medical facilities.
In medical emergencies, in addition to our fine Emergency Medical Technicians, we have rapid response helicopter services, through Cumberland Memorial,l to the Twin Cities or other medical complexes. We are also within easy travel of the Mayo Clinic and the Marshfield complex.
NEWSPAPERS
In addition to the Cumberland Advocate, we also have a local shopping guide, The Beacon. Between the two publications, there are about 10,000 homes receiving local coverage.
RECREATION
We offer year around recreation. With our fantastic array of local lakes, there is quality fishing year around. You will find several landings in which to launch your boat.
In addition to water, you will find wonderful cross country snow skiing at Timberland Hills. There is also a lighted ski trail over 3 k for evening enjoyment.
We have a great beach and picnic area on the north side of town and located on Beaver Dam Lake.
Eagle Point campground, a city owned facility, has 30 camping sites and is also located on Beaver Dam Lake. In addition, there are other campgrounds located near and around Cumberland.
We are extremely pleased with the addition of our new Cumberland Fine Arts Center in our community. This offers various options, such as live theatre, music, art shows and other choices of entertainment and enlightenment.
Last, but definitely not least, we have a fine 18-hole Cumberland Golf Course. Whether you're visiting or planning on living here, you should make this part of your recreation itinerary.
CHURCHES
We have several churches covering many denominations which will welcome you as members or visitors. You can check our sites or the newspaper for church service locations, denominations and times of worship.
DOWNTOWN
We have a very nice downtown area with the usual grocery stores, hardware stores, fantastic restaurants, fast food service with drive through available, motels, car dealerships, hair salons, specialty stores, pharmacies, insurance, banks, heating and air conditioning along with appliance stores. We have numerous other businesses such as accounting, variety stores, used clothing stores, men’s wear, gas stations, real estate businesses, gift shops, and other types of business. If you are seeking an item or service and it isn’t listed here, simply stop and ask at any local business and someone will be happy to direct you to what you seek.
SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS
We have numerous service organizations which are extremely active. We could begin with the Chamber of Commerce and end with church organizations. If you have time or energy to donate, there is an organization which could use your assistance. We also offer one of the best active Senior Citizen Centers for companionship, food, general information, and service. If you need assistance, chances are there’s someone or an organization or business in Cumberland which can assist you.
