Your Cumberland Schools
This will be my last monthly article as part of the “Your Cumberland Schools” column. The school year has nearly ended, and summer school will be upon us shortly.
The embargo is off on this year’s test results, and we are pleased to report that our students exceeded the state percentages of proficient and advanced in 19 of the 23 areas of testing. We were at the same percentage on two, and slightly lower in two areas. Our tenth graders did a terrific job. These test results can be found on the school district’s website: www.cumberlandk12.wi.us.
The Cumberland Educational Foundation is welcoming three new trustees to the board. Barb Lynch, John Schell and Barry Rose will replace Joanne Ranallo, Katie Proescholdt and me as they continue to provide leadership to meet the one million dollar fundraising challenge. Special thanks to Joanne Ranallo and Katie Proescholdt for taking the foundation to new heights.
The challenges ahead for the Cumberland School District will center around revenue limits and declining enrollment. I would urge you to give Mr. Rose the support that I enjoyed and keep Cumberland schools competitive with other districts in the state.
The time has come for me to pursue retirement. I will miss my association with each of you. I would especially like to thank the business people, the fine staff of employees, my principals and my school board for making this a great ten years.
I would challenge the parents and the students to set their goals very high and keep the Cumberland culture alive, vibrant and positive. The very best to each of you. Karen and I thank you for the memories.
The staff at the Cumberland Advocate wish to thank Don Groth for all the work he has done as Superintendent of the Cumberland School District. We wish him continued success and a very happy retirement.
